Ana Sol Gutiérrez was born in Santa Ana, El Salvador and was five years old when she first came to the United States. Her family eventually setttled in Chevy Chase Maryland. Ana has had success working as a systems engineer, in strategic planning, program management and computer engineering. After becoming a citizen in the 1980s she began her involvement in politics, first in the school board level and then as the first Latina elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2002.
