Loida Silva moved to North Carolina with her parents from Mexico in 2001 when she was 12 years old. She continues to live there as an undocumented immigrant.
Loida graduated with honors from high school, attended community college while working full time, and now studies at UNC Ashville. Silva considers herself bi-cultural (“I think, speak and drink in two languages”, she says) and loves her state of North Carolina. On February 11, she spoke out at the Historic Thousands on Jones Street march and rally in Raleigh, NC about the challenges she faces.
Says Loida, “I pay my taxes… but most importantly I am a human being, and no human being can be illegal!”
