Prerna Lal: Prominant DREAM Act advocate threatened with deportation

Sign the petition at Change.org

Prerna Lal is a George Washington University law student who helped found DreamActivist, the immigrant youth-led DREAM Act organization. Prerna sits on the board of Immigration Equality and is also the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including this year’s South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) ChangeMaker Award.

Prerna has been both a fierce advocate for human rights and instrumental in stopping several deportations in which families would have been torn apart. Most recently, Prerna pushed for a policy change to stop denying green-cards for same-sex bi-national couples.

Now Prerna finds herself in a nightmare of court dates and removal proceedings, hanging by a thread that could separate her from the rest of her family for the forseeable future. What’s more, Prerna’s parents are permanent residents. Prerna is the grand-daughter of U.S. citizens. In fact, Prerna is the only undocumented person in four generations of American citizens.   Prerna should be busy preparing for law school exams, not a deportation defense.
